August 2017 - Gale & Mattie Miller

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge our August 2017 Volunteers of the Month, Gale & Mattie Miller. We would like to thank them for all of their hard work and dedication to our trail mission in Grayson County! Gale & Mattie serve as excellent role models of the motto "Do what you can, where you are, with what you have." With a family farm business and busy home school schedule, it is challenging for Gale & Mattie to attend our Volunteer Trail Work Days scheduled for Saturday mornings. This doesn't stop them, though! Rather than allowing that to prevent them from serving, they have found a way to volunteer on their own schedule!

This mother/daughter power team have checked in with us through Facebook Messenger multiple times and shared ideas they have had for improving the trail, including creek bed cleanup and landscaping of the trail entrances. They then asked us permission to work on those projects on their own during the week! Just because you cannot attend a scheduled trail work day doesn't mean you cannot make a difference! If everyone who visited the trail removed even one piece of trash during their visit, we would have a spotless trail in just a matter of days! Gale & Mattie have also been regular attendees at our public meetings, public presentations, and community events and have donated their time, energy, and personal resources to ensure that our trails are kept clean and beautiful!
