Do Something That ROCKS!

Join "Grayson Co. KY Rocks" On Facebook!

All over Grayson County, people are putting down their electronic devices and picking up their paint brushes to decorate rocks and hide them around the community for others to find! When Melody Raymer Elliott first created the Grayson Co. KY Rocks group in March of 2017, there were less than 10 members. Today the group is over 2,000 members strong, with new members joining daily!

When asked what inspired her to create the Facebook group, Melody responded: "I was inspired by "Elizabethtown Rocks". My kids were begging me to take them to look for rocks when we would make a trip to Elizabethtown. Because it brought them such joy, I wanted to try to spread that to our own community."

Painted Rocks With PERKS!

"Grayson Co. KY Rocks is a public group intended to spread beauty and kindness in our community. We are simply painting rocks to hide around our community for others to find with the hope that it will inspire and encourage people of all ages to get out and explore.

If you are interested in joining the fun, simply paint a rock to hide (try to make it appropriate for all ages). On the back of the rock we would appreciate it if you would write “Post pic to Grayson Co. KY Rocks Facebook page. Keep or hide”.

If you spray your rocks with a clear sealant, such as Rustoleum, it will protect your artwork. Then hide your creation. If you find a rock feel free to keep it or hide it again for others to enjoy. If you decide to keep a rock, you are encouraged to paint one and hide it instead.

We would love for you to post your creations and those that you find so others can share in the fun. The goal is to get as many people as we can to participate. "

With the development of the Public Trails Association of Grayson County and the popularity of the Grayson Co. KY Rocks Facebook group catching on, many local businesses and organizations are finding looking for creative ways to get involved.

A trend started when the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center's Rehab Staff placed several rocks on the trail that could be exchanged for a free month of gym membership when found. They did this as an effort to encourage community members to get active by hitting the trails and taking to the town to search for rocks that come with extra perks when found!

With more than one dozen businesses placing rocks throughout the community that can be exchanged for a perk, you never know what you will find!
